I have been an owner and manager of many privately held businesses in addition to practicing law.
During the 1980’s, I supervised all day-to-day activities of my prior business interests including sales, marketing, production, manufacturing, inventory control, HR/personnel, employee development, cash flow management, banking relationships and all legal matters. Ronalco, Inc. was one of the largest refractory distributors and industrial furnace contractors in the Midwest, servicing power plants, smelting operations, foundries, forges, refineries and heat treating facilities. Ronalco, Inc. became the pre-eminent original equipment manufacturer of continuous porcelain enameling furnaces in the appliance industry within the United States (with a number of projects in Mexico, Canada and China). Other affiliated entities were legally separated from Ronalco, Inc. as subsidiaries (Niemco Fabricators was a steel fabrication job shop; MAC Industrial Insulation was a low temperature insulation contractor; Craft-Tech was a manufacturer of innovative refractory products; and ACK Construction was an industrial/commercial general contractor). Cherokee Porcelain Enamel Corporation manufactured the porcelain enamel signs for the New York City subway system and the outdoor signage for Cracker Barrel restaurants.
After selling these businesses, I worked with a CPA firm as a business consultant before engaging in the private practice of law, specializing in business transactions and intellectual property. As an attorney, I render business advice along with addressing legal concerns. Most recently, I served as a senior corporate attorney with Louisville Gas & Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, responsible for providing both legal and business advice to project engineering, power generation, supply chain/procurement (purchasing), informational technology and for new energy development.
My extensive business knowledge adds a unique perspective because I assess the opportunities and risks of my client’s strategic initiatives. Unlike most attorneys, I provide “value added” insights. I have actually been in the business arena.
I now bring this collective experience to my solo legal practice~~~unburdened by law firm structure and excessive overhead expenses.
